Philippe, our warm and charming host, made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. He entertained the kids with stories about the history of his extraordinary house and even recommended some amazing local restaurants. The breakfasts were delicious, and we were lucky enough to enjoy a magical dinner evening hosted by Philippe. Our children were thrilled to be a part of it all and felt like little princes and princesses. We can't wait to return to Valenciennes and stay here again!
My children wanted more opportunities to interact with other kids.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Le Grand Duc in France and it was an amazing experience. As soon as I arrived, Philippe, the owner, made me feel incredibly welcome. He was friendly and fluent in English, which made communication easy. The hotel itself was beautifully restored, with unique artwork throughout. The gardens were absolutely delightful and I enjoyed exploring them. While dinner wasn't available, the exceptional breakfast gave me confidence that the dinner would have been equally delicious. The room I stayed in was spacious and comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep.
Nothing, all was good. 😊

The guest rooms at Le Grand Duc bed and breakfast are amazing! The wooden floors give a cozy and natural feel, while the large beds are so comfortable that you'll never want to leave.
Personally, I found that the requirement to book the rooms at least 24 hours in advance was a bit inconvenient.

The host at this unique and charming accommodation was incredibly welcoming and hospitable. He provided us with refreshments upon arrival and gave us great recommendations for local restaurants. The building itself was beautiful and interesting, with quirky decor that we couldn't stop talking about. The breakfasts were superb with lots of options to choose from, and the location was perfect for exploring the city and its attractions.
The location of the property was quite noisy due to its proximity to public transportation. the room was missing a bath which was advertised on the website where we booked.

The whole house has been decorated with great ingenuity & flair resulting in a fabulous, exciting and very interesting experience. The owner has designed and carried out most of the work himself, creating visually stimulating rooms. The evening meal on the terrace was of great quality, with a superb atmosphere created by the lighting, adjacent garden and pond, and other guests. The owner is an interesting and excellent host. The breakfast was beautifully served with fresh pastries, and guests can have whatever they want at whatever time. The walled garden is beautiful and relaxing, with even a hammock set up for guests to enjoy the morning sun. There is no pressure to leave in the morning, as guests can stay all day if desired.
Felt really good, no complaints whatsoever.

The evening meal was tasty and the garden area was a great place to relax after a busy day. The interior design was unique and definitely worth seeing. the breakfast selection was outstanding, you could pretty much have whatever you wanted, and the homemade pastries were a highlight. The location was ideal for exploring the town and nearby attractions.
The lack of a lift for reaching the upper floors made it challenging to carry luggage to the rooms. One room was quite small and cramped while the other was a bit too dark and poorly ventilated.

The hotel is situated in a charming, atmospheric house away from the hustle and bustle of the town. The decoration is eclectic, interesting, and visually stimulating. Breakfast is served on time and the owner makes every effort to accommodate guests' preferences. The garden, terrace, and pond create a peaceful atmosphere for relaxing. The staff is helpful with recommendations for local restaurants.
The location may not be the best in town according to one review, but it is still a charming retreat away from the town's hustle and bustle.
